Overall description of the Project

In our project we concentrate on two main molecular targets which are thought to be important in antidepressants/anxiolytic mechanism of action – serotonin system and metabotropic glutamate receptors. Discovery of a new potential antidepressant or anxiolytic drugs is organized as a multi-level academia-based platform consisting of three complementary modules. First, molecular modeling module is based on our own pharmacophores and receptor models , with the aim to design new ligands, to virtually screen compound libraries and to predict ADME properties. Second, compounds acquisition system involves both an in-house, rationally planned synthesis, and exploration of existing compound collections from academic sources. Several institutions have already declared to make their collections available for testing within a project framework. A third module involves a biochemical and pharmacological characterizations of new chemical entities that uses our experience and know-how in testing of antidepressant and anxiolytic drugs. A key feature of this part is rescaling of an existing research capabilities to a technical screening platform for academic centers.
